The level of melanin in the eye is the most important factor in determining eye color. People who have brown eyes have a gene in the anterior iris of their eye that makes it possible for pigment to concentrate in the same location, giving the appearance that the eye is brown. Brown eyes have a lower reflecting capacity when compared to blue ones. The higher melanin production in their bodies gives them a darker overall tone to their skin color. The same may be said about those with hazel eyes . People who often have blue eyes also tend to have a thinner outermost layer of melanin in their iris. Because of the way light enters the room, it gives the impression that their eyes are blue.
